Behind the Lens

Hi there! I am Joanna, the lady behind the lens of Broad Reach Group living in North Carolina with my loving husband Scott, our precious daughter Elizabeth and fluffy pup named Cates. We are an inseparable crew and believe family and faith always come first.

As a mama (read: proud mamarazzi and momtographer) I am all about making memories and documenting them for us as parents to look back on, and for our daughter to have when she is older. She may not remember frolicking through a field of daffodils or strolling along the beach with her grandparents when she was only one year old, but I’ve made it my mission to ensure she has all of the photo evidence of a happy toddlerhood, and I love to share the ability to freeze memories in beautiful photos for other families.

In a life where seasons seem to pass so quickly, I believe photos are incredibly valuable in allowing us to remain present.

I have over ten years of marketing, communications and branding experience working with a variety of amazing clients—from major universities, to small businesses and political candidates. As you can imagine, photography is a huge part of this industry, but it wasn’t until after my husband and I welcomed our darling bambina into the world that I truly found my passion for being behind the camera. I love helping a client tell their story through photos, while finding the fun along the way.

As a family, newborn and wedding photographer I believe in capturing all of the details and moments we possibly can. There is no detail too small to be appreciated—especially when it comes to tiny hands and toes, or the rings which will signify a couples’ outward love for a lifetime. The big moments—I love those too. A first dance, engagement, bringing baby home, 50th anniversary, you name it—I love them all and am honored to be able to capture those memories that will be shared through generations.

My hope as your photographer is to provide a gallery that allows you to live these moments from start to finish, time and time again. We will balance gorgeous detail shots with candid moments and portraits to ensure all of the emotions of your day or session are captured.

As a product photographer, I love seeing my client’s vision come to life and capturing it in images. Boutiques with carefully curated items, a restaurant looking to showcase a new menu— framing these products in a way the owner is proud of—another incredible way our photography has an impact and allows a story to be told.
